Yep !! its true. It was the first Chapter 152's Chili Cookoff. It was a cold rainy night at the home of the Thompson's, where cooks, judges and chili eaters gathered to compare recipes, tell jokes and in some cases seeking information on another chili (can you believe that ). Sign ups started weeks ago and it was clear that chili cooks know that their chili is the best, but as the date grew near it was clear that the competition was fierce and the BIG GUNS were out. Looking for the honor (BRAGGING RIGHTS) of having the best chili. As the night began the pots of chili arrived and the cooks kept a close eye on their pot to make sure that there was no hanky panky, bribes and possibly sabotage going on. The competitors were… PEPPER PETE from Orem. HOT SAUCE MICHELLE from West Valley. GARY the CHILI BANDIT from Lake Point, EL HABANERO BEANI from Layton and last, but not least, SPICY TOMATO MARK from Taylorsville. Yes this night was going to be much more heated (and smelly) than the group could have anticipated. |
| When the judges started their daring push through the mountains of chili the posturing began, and within a few moments
the heckling on another cooks chili. When all the fun was over and many bowls of the best chili had been eaten,
a winner was crowned. SPICY TOMATO MARK will walk out with the prize, "The CHILI GNOME".
Thanks to the Thompson's for opening their home to us. Thanks to all who came to eat and thanks to the cooks. Can't wait to see what happens next year! - Mark Petersen |
